Worst rental experience I’ve had in 28 years in business. They make you sign an 8 page rental agreement that it takes a lawyer to understand and they don’t provide basic customer service. Unfit to be running a business.

Thrifty got it right in the end but…
When my Hyundai Ioniq showed a 'stop engine' warning it was towed by the AA to the dealer and the AA organised a courtesy car from Thrifty to be delivered to my home. The car was great and full of fuel. It took about 3 days to arrive but this was not a problem. After our car was repaired we took the courtesy car back to the dealer for Thrifty to collect. It was full of fuel and completely damage free. We had only driven around 18 miles.

About a week after we found our credit card had been debited over £550 and found it difficult to contact Thrifty. The usual thing - the phone rings, and rings, and rings.
As Hyundai provide AA home assistance with the car we took the matter up with them and they were calm, efficient and professional. They called us back (after a weekend intervened) and let us know that credit in the correct amount had been made to our card account and we were fully satisfied.

Except!! What sort of company finds that it has made a substantial error (the hire contract was with AA/Hyundai and charges were for their account) and doesn't even phone to say 'sorry - we got it wrong but have put matters right'.

Thrifty DID put it right - apparently they discovered their own error - so all the subsequent calls and explanations were a complete waste of time for the the dealer, for Hyumdai customer service, for the AA and for me. Come on Thrifty - it's easier to be so much better.

Crooks!!!
Crooks!!!! Avoid renting cars from Thrifty, they're purely driven by greed. I had British Airways cancel my flights and put me on the next available flight which was only 3 hrs later not too much of an issue. When informing Thrifty of this, I was messed around for a week with different answers only to be told I would have to pay an additional £250 to pick my car up 3 hrs later than planned!!!! Absolute crooks and terrible customer service.

Poor company response
I have repeatedly contacted Thrifty with a complaint regarding one of their rental drivers. I had a response saying they would get back within 5 working days. This was about 2 months ago. My further emails have not been acknowledged. I did not want to leave one star but it wouldn't let me leave nil.

Thrifty Acton - Awful service
Thrifty Acton, London. I needed long term rental. The vehicle was in prestine condition, but had a fault with the SOS call function, and would intermittently mess up the sat nav / audio / call systwms, basically the media. I reported the issue, they sent AA, who didn't not review the vehicle, but reported back to Thrifty Acton, who advised for me to drive the vehicle to their store, so they can give me another hire. They didn't not have any other hire vehicle available, and were rude, did not apologize once, and wouldn't take any responsibility. I off hired on the spot, and would not advise anyone to use their services. Worst rental company I've ever used. Avoid at all costs

There's Thrifty and then there's theft.
Was booked a car by the AA from Thrifty when my car broke down. When I picked it up the girl said you need to return it as it was found. The tank had roughly 3/4 of a tank. I had the car 5 days and then had to leave it at the garage where my car was repaired. I went to the nearest petrol station to the garage and filled it up to over the 3/4 mark but by the time I left it it was exactly 3/4. 4 days later Thrifty have taken over £11 out of my account without contacting me, so about two gallons. They obviously filled it right up. It's basically theft and there's nothing I can do about it apart from complain and inform people on every social platform I have access to. Steer clear everybody, they are a disgrace.

Thrifty Newcastle
Thrifty Newcastle - do not use this company! Their vehicles are a health hazard inside, they take unauthorized payments once they have your bank details then tell you to email their complaints department. The only thing as bad as their vehicles are their rude, lying staff.

Great experience. Rented a car via auto europe. Flight was cancelled and could only fly next morning. Auto europe denied all responsibility and provided no service at all!
Called the rental station directly afterwards, no problem whatsoever, rented car remained available for me the next morning without any extra charge. Supe service and many thanks

The biggest crooks there is under the sun THRIFTY. I have already been to America 40 times and countless times I have rented a car there as well as in other countries. But indeed never one of THRIFTY. Despite showing an InsuranceWaiver they secretly let me sign for the whole range of insurance. So a warned man counts for 2. never do business with THRIFTY

The car its self was good although they were no help with the child's car seat, they were just stacked against a wall and told just to help ourselves to one. The main issues were when we got the final invoice with charges for things we didn't have or want, toll charges that were doubled with Thriffy;s charges on top. Extra insurances that we declined at the airport and a $60 charge for fuel even though we took the car back with a full tank. We booked the car through Holiday Cars.com and they were no help only told us to go to our credit card company with our complaint. I would never use Triffty again were ever I am.

BEWARE
BEWARE, DO NOT USE! I pre booked a vehicle from Thrifty through Expedia for a 16 day trip to Dallas USA. The price booked was $907 and this was with additional insurance. I decided not to pay up front which was actually a lesser price due to the current Covid situation, a decided to pay on collection. On my arrival at Thrifty (Dallas Int Airport) all was well until they handed me the bill. All of a sudden it had jumped to $2235. I refused this and questioned the increase. They stated that the quote from Expedia was always incorrect and underestimated. "They do that all the time." Again this quote was refused and I was left without transport. I eventually went to one of their competitors but as it was an immediate rental the price was high. I eventually paid $1900. I will never use Expedia or Thrifty again as neither can be trusted.
